Espresso and CLEO bring award-winning content to 850 schools

CLEO (Cumbria & Lancashire Education Online) Broadband Consortium has joined forces with Espresso Education, double award winner at BETT 2004, to deliver the best of digital media content to 850 schools in Cumbria & Lancashire.
This project represents the largest provision of broadband content by any Regional Broadband Consortium.
CLEO has taken this unprecedented step to fill its broadband infrastructure with high quality educational materials for all its schools. It will enable the use of the Espresso content in a collaborative manner within and between schools and teachers in CLEO as well as providing schools with a truly cross-curricular service. Together, CLEO and Espresso have taken a big step forward in meeting the Department for Education and Skills agenda for embedding ICT across the curriculum with materials to support all subject areas.
All schools will be equipped with the best digital resources available via a CLEO-managed cache box solution, which offers teachers and learners simple-to-use technology and content . The project will include:
- Espresso for Primary – a phased introduction to primary, nursery, PRUs and special schools, of the unique broadband weekly updating news and curriculum service via the installation of a cachebox pre-loaded with the Espresso content.
- Professional Development – A team of expert trainers from Espresso are working closely with CLEO & LA curriculum advisers to provide regional training delivery.
- Espresso Content Club - CLEO and Espresso are working together to create fresh digital content that is reflective of local life, culture and events, and which will serve the vital, but currently under-resourced, Foundation & KS1 curriculum. CLEO learners will also be given access to other Content Club productions developed in partnership with other RBCs, including the well-regarded Faiths modules made in partnership with the London Grid for Learning.
From Foundation through KS2, from schools to nurseries, PRUs and special schools, Espresso and CLEO look forward to working together to provide the best digital learning resources available to assist teaching and learning throughout Cumbria and Lancashire.
