Following
the resounding success of its 'Espresso for Primary Schools' service
- now used by over 100,000 pupils across the UK - Espresso Education
is launching its groundbreaking 'Espresso for Secondary Schools' service
on stand M87 at BETT 2002. For the first time, children can use
Espresso at home thanks to the brand new homework service which incorporates
printable worksheets and links to relevant websites. The new Secondary
service also includes differentiated extension activities such as 'Take
me Further', giving gifted pupils the opportunity to make further in-depth
research into topics, and 'Having Problems' which gives examples and
advice for children having difficulty with exercises.
This latest addition to Espresso's growing portfolio of services incorporates all the main features of the award-winning Primary service - lesson resources that are based around current and topical television programmes and news reports supported by relevant websites, interactive activities and differentiated paper-based extension activities. As always, teachers can look for support in Espresso's online 'Staffroom', which can either be accessed at school directly through the service or at home via the Espresso web site (www.espresso.co.uk).
Aimed at Key Stage 3 pupils, Espresso has replaced the cartoon characters found on the original primary school service with animated teachers who guide students through subject areas. As with the Primary Service, Espresso will regularly update learning materials via satellite.
Espresso aids learning by enabling teachers to demonstrate, explore and explain aspects of their teaching, resulting in more effective learning. The range and capacity of the Secondary Service lets both teachers and pupils gain access to historical, recent or immediate resources and information from media sources such as television and the World Wide Web, which, unlike traditional forms of reference, are constantly updated.
David Summers, Editorial Director of Espresso for Schools, says:
Children show a greater willingness to actively participate in classroom activities with the use of Espresso. Early trials of our French module generated a fantastic response and the first adopters of the full Secondary Service, such as the Kings Cross Education Action Zone, are also singing its praises. We believe that the exciting use of new media will transform learning in a wide variety of curriculum areas. As new technology becomes increasingly involved with children's learning, Espresso will supply the materials to open up new paths to discovery and achievement.
